The closing keynote speaker at the recent National Agri Marketing Association conference addressed leadership. Alyson VanHooser didn’t bury the lede when she said, “Leadership is not a position. Leadership is the ability to serve the need and the choice to take action.”
As she expanded on this concept, Alyson said identifying the need is where the entire process begins. And knowing the need requires building relationships, asking questions, and – most importantly – listening. This means knowing stories not just statistics because statistics lead to assumptions.
By identifying the paramount need, Alyson illustrated how intentional leadership can and will work. She also emphasized the necessity of adapting as a leader to meet the paramount need. “See the story, serve the need,” she reiterated.
A fantastic and inspiring presenter, Alyson left us with this thought as well, “You can roll your eyes or roll up your sleeves. Only one will get results.”
All of us at HMG are ready to roll up our sleeves with you to tell your stories!
HMG’s Katie and her husband, Derek, welcomed Vance Cecil on Monday, April 29. They are now the parents of three little guys under age 3 including Otto and Royce at home. We are grateful for Vance’s arrival and ask you all to join us in supporting him in prayer as the family navigates his serious health issues. Vance is getting great care at Omaha Children’s Hospital. Katie is on leave with her family and we look forward to welcoming her back to the team later this summer.
On a site visit with a customer recently, Ann got to tour the facilities and surroundings of a ranch near Galena, Illinois. The ranch is home to Scottish Highland cows and calves, goats, alpacas, a llama, turkeys, ducks, and peacocks. What an adventure on a picture-perfect May day!
For those who chose to serve and paid the ultimate price, we offer our admiration and gratitude. On Memorial Day and always, we recognize the bravery and selflessness of these military members.
HMG will be closed on Monday, May 27 in observance of this national holiday.
We wish blessings and joy to all moms – by birth and choice – who nurture, challenge, encourage, and correct. We celebrate their contributions to raising kids and making our worlds go around!
